Ingredients
- 3 cups Flour
- 2 cups Buttermilk
- 2 cups White Sugar
- 1/2 cup Shortening
- 1/2 cup Butter (Softened)
- 1/2 cup Walnuts (Chopped)
- 2 tbl Cocoa Powder
- 2 tsp Cinnamon
- 2 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 tsp Cloves (Ground)
Method
- Using a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, softened butter, flour and shortening.
- Fill a cup with the mixture for the cake topping.
- Add the ground cloves, cinamon, baking soda, cocoa powder and buttermilk while stirring.
- While mixing, fold in the ground walnuts.
- Pour the batter into a greased 8“ cake pan.
- Sprinkle the cup of crumbly mixture over the top.
- Place in an oven preheated to 350 F and bake for 45 minutes.
- Lift out of the oven and place on a wire rack to cool.
