Chocolate Coffee Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Flour
  • 2 cups Buttermilk
  • 2 cups White Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Shortening
  • 1/2 cup Butter (Softened)
  • 1/2 cup Walnuts (Chopped)
  • 2 tbl Cocoa Powder
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Cloves (Ground)

Method

  1. Using a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, softened butter, flour and shortening.
  2. Fill a cup with the mixture for the cake topping.
  3. Add the ground cloves, cinamon, baking soda, cocoa powder and buttermilk while stirring.
  4. While mixing, fold in the ground walnuts.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased 8“ cake pan.
  6. Sprinkle the cup of crumbly mixture over the top.
  7. Place in an oven preheated to 350 F and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Lift out of the oven and place on a wire rack to cool.
